I'm working on the second case in "Brianna Golde, P.I.," and I've come across a leap in logic. In the case, Brianna's older brother, Darias (who also had powers similar to Brianna's) is murdered, and Dalton ends up defending the man accused of murdering him. I've come across a leap in logic involving the autopsy. After a mutant whith shapeshifting powers changes back into a human being, animal DNA molecules remain suspended in their bloodstream. These molecules dissolve after a few days and are completely inactive (as in they don't affect human bodily functions), but they make blood tests nearly impossible to conduct (and would immediately expose a mutant's powers to the person testing the blood). How could I make this work without being a leap in logic? (I really don't want everyone in the story to find out Brianna's powers.)

I don't want them to discover her secret at this point in the story.

I am not sure that I completely understand where the leap in logic is. Can't you just have them do the autopsy early enough to detect the animal DNA? Do you want them to discover she is a mutant or not?
That is an interesting twist you have to the powers. I suggest that you have the Medical Examiner discover the animal DNA in the bloodstream, which would be very confusing to her. Then, a few days later, she tells someone else about it, but that person doesn't believe her. The ME shows the blood sample but now the animal DNA is dissolved and the ME is even more confused.
This could be a way to gradually reveal to the audience (or to the other characters) that someone strange is going one.
Introduce a news cast or a news article title early on in the story that suggests in this world you've created the science may have come that far, never actually showing the full article until later that it was a mystery on how the event happened.
