I've been thinking about the origin of Brianna's powers, and I have two thoughts. Either way, she inherited her abilities from her father, but she does have a half brother who has similar superpowers.1. Her powers are a polygenetic trait that is passed down from generation to generation. Different numbers of dominant and recessive genes cause different powers and abilities.2. Her powers are caused by a random genetic mutation that while not strictly hereditary, could be passed down to first generation "mutants'" offspring. Different mutations cause different powers. If one normal parent and one mutant or two mutants with the same mutation had a child, the mutation would be passed on to the child. If people with two different power-causing mutations had a child, it could cause serious complications/birth defects.Characters' powers come in either after one exceptional tragedy, a buildup of multiple emotional moments, or a combination of the two (i.e. A car accident after months/years of emotional distress).Any advice?

I'm thinking she's a type 2 (someone whose powers came in due to a series of several traumatic experiences). She already had mental health struggles beforehand, and her powers came in during the aftermath of a suicide attempt. (don't know if that's too dark or not)
Her powers' origin is less important than how it affects her and how she deals with it.
Which would fit your story better: a long slow buildup of emotional wearing or a sudden traumatic burst? Since you are creating the character, you can pick the origin that let's you tell your story better.
