Why are the majority of popular Christian Comics remakes of Bible Stories? I have no problem with it but I question if Christians won't promote or like Comics with a strong bible teaching- whether than a remake of a book in the Bible. Any thoughts?

Which type of bookstore is a good question? Oftentimes, I think most Christians market to Christians. So, I would say, Christian bookstores. How do we, as Christian Comicbook artist increase our face with the Christian community. I recently asked my church (http://northlandchurch.net/) to host a Comix35 Seminar. My hope is that my church can see this as another vehicle to preach the gospel because it is. That brings up another question within this discussion, " Should Christian only market to christians." Sometimes, I think we do.
I think the CHURCH every believer should know the tools they can use to witness with. It's important also so that this artform is not misunderstood or devalued.

Justin, what you say about the Bible as a script is so true. The other side of it is, the Bible is also one of the most succinct books you'll ever read. You can jump years from one sentence to the next - especially in the Old Testament (sometimes in even in a single sentence). Also, sometimes it's what's left out that can be more intriguing - where one can read between the lines going...I wonder what these people were thinking/Doing between here and here.

As someone who is currently working on two comic projects (one an original story and the other a re-telling of the life of the Apostle Peter), I'm realizing that from a practical standpoint, remaking bible stories takes care of much of the "writing" tasks as far as the story is concerned. If you're basically retelling bible stories verbatim, then much of your story structure and dialogue is provided for you. The bible's also very descriptive, so artists have a lot of information to work with before they begin drawing. Lastly, there are so many stories and characters in the bible, it makes for a huge resource when looking for material. I think one way to add a fresh take on retelling bible stories is to not retell a particular story, but to tell a unique/"original" story, but use many different bible stories to do so. If that makes sense...
Hey Steven - I can't shut down a thread if I tried. I was just mentioning the fact that this topic had been done - I should have suggested: Add to those previous threads to continue the discussion.
BUT - the point has been made that new insights can always be found. ALSO, now that I think about it, those other threads saw their through-line and adding to them specifically won't be beneficial. Their stalled and had their say. SO starting a new thread about this very topic is not a huge deal.
Kendall has suggested being SPECIFIC to BOOKSTORES and CHURCH OPINION. I think those are very valid topics where new insights can be had.

I agree, a biblical story is a great start! And by comics like the Action Bible, Those comics are very popular. I do think the best way to expand an art form is to challenge it's content, though.

I understand your view. I seen a lot of your posts. You have good insight. Did want to discuss this topic more. I really want to go more into Bookstore sales, Church opinion about the use of comic books and etc.
I'm kind of glad you guys decided that it was OK to reopen this topic because I'm new to this site and was completely unaware of the other threads. That wasn't too inviting to have the thread shut down because other people have posted similar topics before. Anyway, I think that while Christian writers do need to be more creative, it may help to break into Christian writing by doing something familiar. TKTC is my FIRST Christian story, and the first comic that I've worked on since being saved. It is fictional, but based heavily on biblical and historical accounts. This is because I love to write fiction and develop character, but it was a safe way to start Christian writing. Maybe my next works will be more risky...who knows. Sometimes a visual form of a biblical story is a great start!
i have seen some threads on here where they are 3-5 pages long, and some people jump right in. others feel uncomfortable. I mean, if we sat here having a conversation, and someone joined us, we might be slightly erked, that the person didnt go back and listen to the recording of everything we said up until then. but to them, it doesnt really mean anything to them.
I like that about these posts, but things can get a bit "stale" after a while.
I dont do much "searching" to see if something was already discussed. is that considered, internet laziness? lol. i think maybe.
Sorry about that. I should have been a little more sensitive. I always forget that new people show up, or other people may be gone for extended periods and haven't been part of those discussions.

I should have also mentioned what posts that the topic was covered in: There are two main ones - one of them is titled something like: Why Are So Many Christian Comics and Media So Boring
The other was: Characters in Grey Areas: What are your thoughts?
I can see that those discussions have fallen from the home page area, so obviously, new people wouldn't be aware of them.
Though, the specific question you ask, may not have been directly covered, it might have been discussed indirectly.
As Matthew above points out, one can always learn new stuff.
