Christian Comic Review

toplogo.gif?width=700Hello friends,

Sometime ago I suggested creating a Christian Comic E-zine. I noticed that oftentimes, CCAS has many awesome projects and strips show up on the main screen before disappearing into oblivion after status updates and other content is pushed through. That is not a criticism, of course, of this site; it is simply not the site's purpose to do what an E-zine does do, that being archive and pull together the happenings of the Christian Comic Community. As such, I have created the framework for a free HTML based e-zine, whose livelihood depends exclusively on submissions and the prayers of all invested. I am essentially done with it, I just need material from all of you!

I am looking for articles, tutorials, comics strips, reviews, news, updates about projects you have going on, any jobs/commission work you need done, ANYTHING, that deal with Christian comics and the Christian comic community. Preferably, I would like material that is new or ongoing (a comic you made a decade ago that everyone has already read, wouldn't be too entertaining, after all!). If you have anything you'd like in the first issue, e-mail it to me at svenjacobs3@gmail.com!

Each issue of the zine will be an HTML page with a prefacing table of contents - very simple, easy to manage. As such, I am not so concerned about article size, unless someone submits a novella (*smile*). Reviews of movies and other articles people have posted on CCAS have probably been about 500 words, which is typically a two paged essay, ballpark. I suspect tutorials would naturally have the same word count, except with pictures if needed.

I would include your name, contact information, and any other relevant information you would want me to place on the article/comic header. An e-mail with your name is fine. I will be translating any articles to an html format, and can make the articles/reviews/etc. from any standard document type (doc, docx, rtf, txt, etc).

Comics can be in any standard file format as far as I'm concerned (gif, jpg, png). The comics can only be a maximum width of 900px, though I can treat the image as a hyperlink and allow the reader to view the image at fullsize if you fancy making a comic strip larger than 900px. The body background of the website is black because it fits best with the design - know that when making comic gutters (not that comic gutters being black is a requirement). Personally, I made it so the comics I will be using in the article have transparent gutters (in which case the comic will need to be gifs or pngs). As of right now, the current issue is only 4kb full of image data (I am a master of compression), so I am not worried about the size of any comics sent to me.

I should note that I am not looking for graphic novels, 20+ page stories, or (again) novellas. Additionally, I am looking for new content, not articles and strips that the community is familiar with. If someone would like, I will link to pre-existing material in the NEWS or PROJECTS section, but would rather have comics that can stand on their own as content in the mag.

Thank you,

Sven Jacobs

  • This is a wonderful idea!

  • Just joined this site and am super hyped to read comics by other christians!

Also working on my own webcomic. The link is here to Concerning Justice, completely free and looking for some good input and more readers. Basically a very different view of the superhero genre, and loads of fun to work on.

    Anyway, hope ya'll enjoy!

  • Brien and Maffett: I added this explanation to the call for material above, but thought I'd address them here in the response as well. Brien: I gave Maffett the URL of the site as it is so far. I can send it to you as well so you can get an idea of the content you would like to place if desired, just send me an e-mail.

  • Go Sven!

I am a lot quicker to respond to and skim e-literature because of the quickness, ease of finding indexed information and lack of clutter around my domicile; so I like the idea of an e-zine.

How long would you like the articles to be?   JPEG of MSWord or...format?   Attach our names and email?
