CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

Dear Christian Comic Arts Society,

I have a recurring desire to work on a small art book about St. Joan of Arc. This book would be mostly pin up style art with some text worked into the pages, featuring various quotes by St. Joan herself, and others from the Bible or even just interesting facts or opinions by the artist or myself. I'd love for the artwork to be in color, and am imagining a 8 1/2" X 11" sized 24 page soft cover book that I would get printed on Amazon.com's CreateSpace.

All the art would be commissioned from our community here at the CCAS:)

The main idea is to Glorify God by celebrating this honored Saint, and letting her own faith and love for God lead to a closing page about the Lord Jesus Christ.

All I would basically be doing would be to organize the book.

Opening pages would be historically accurate art with a quick overview of Joan's spirituality and the events in her life (No more than 8 pages) These pages would possibly be all black and white.

The following 12 pages would be art inspired by St. Joan. Historical accuracy isn't required here, so long hair, fantasy style armor, anything goes since I know you will all be respectful and tasteful. These pages should be color.

The last 4 pages would include:

Theme: Joan's Martyrdom, in which she cried thrice the name of Jesus, the Savior...

Theme: Joan before the throne of God "Well done Good and Faithful Servant! Enter into the Joy of the Lord!"

Theme: The Heroine's Hero: The Lord Jesus Christ!

Closing: An explanation of Salvation and contact information.

Well, that is the idea I have right now. Please help me brainstorm this through!

I am not rich, so I probably couldn't pay more than $150 for a color page, which I know isn't much for an 8 1/2 by 11 color page. And I couldn't commission more than a page a month, so we're looking at 2 years before the book gets printed after all the groundwork is laid and we're ready to buy the art.

Once the book is done, I would present it to the CCAS board for approval as a resource for CCAS approved tables at comic conventions. If approved, then a few times a year I would send some free copies to the CCAS for Freebies/Giveaways.

Please, I would love your thoughts and indications of interest in participating(no need for a firm commitment yet) and advice, or anything about this project. St. Joan is one of the most charismatic post Biblical saints I know of, and I think she'll be delighted if we use her fame to Glorify the God she loves so much!

Oh, I have in mind a broadly Christian approach to the book, and not a specifically or heavily Catholic treatment of this subject, though individual artists would be welcome to go that route if they feel led to.

Be well, and be blessed!

Gerry

  • Hi Brien! It's a magnificent piece! Very much what I was looking for, though I want the artists to feel free to follow whatever inspiration the Lord might bring, pictures based on her actual quotes are a plus! If you don't mind me using the piece, please send me a printable file in a PM?

I'm very, very happy and feel blessed by this surprise art this Sunday, thank you and God Bless!

  • Hey Gerard,  I had some time this weekend and decided to work-up a pic for one of Saint Joan's more famous quotes. Is this what you had in mind?

  • Hi all! The 'CCAS Visions of St. Joan of Arc' (a working title, please help me think of a good name) project has begun and I'm very pleased. I'd like to announce that I'm thinking of going with Black and White instead of the color pictures I originally was asking for from contributing artists. If anyone has started a color piece for this project, please let me know, the book doesn't have it's covers yet:) Otherwise, black and white pieces would be great.

My website at http://www.asaintjoanofmyown.com is where I will store art and provide updates on the project.

Hope the Lord is blessing you all this weekend!

  • Thank you Melchizedek, that means a lot! I love your art very much, and not only that but your vote of confidence in this project in it's infancy is very encouraging:) May God bless you and Nicole and your various ministries!

  • Count me in Gerry. I'll be able to do a page or two.

  • D.L., thank you so much! I'm even more excited now, knowing you are going to help! I will surely do as you request and donate the payment to a good Christian ministry or charity next month:)

Be well, and may the Lord bless you abundantly!

    Gerard,

You know I got your back. I have leave at work for the next week so I have time to work on a piece. I will email you soon. I might not understanding it right but if you are paying $150 per drawing, donate mine to your favorite christian charity or ministry. I can see taking money from someone that is promoting the Gospel and  honoring a Saint in a grassroots styled project. I will also be posting a prayer for your project, and encouraging others to do so. Your friend in our beloved Savior.

  • Thank you RG, that would be great if you can!

  • Sounds Great, but I can't promise anything right now.  I'll bookmark this page just in case I'm able to.
