Yes, there used to be such a thing! Take a look at these dailies from "Dramatic Events in Bible History," written by Harlowe R. Hoyt and drawn by Walt Scott from 1926-1931.

And here is "Lessons the Bible Teaches" which was written by R. Paul Caudill and drawn by Ralph Keenon from 1955-56.
Perhaps the most successful of these strips was "Tales from the Great Book" which was drawn by John Lehti from 1954-1972. It not only ran in newspapers, but in the 1950s it was collected and reprinted in comic book form as well.
"Jack and Judy in Bible Land" ran from 1947-1950 and was written by Robert Acomb and drawn by William Fay. It saw print in the U.S. and abroad, as evidenced by these strips in French.
