Strip Standards

I tried this in the writers group but got nada. Thought I might try it here too.Is there standards for image size and font size and such? I am looking specifically for strip standards but was thinking that you guys all have to be getting standards from somewhere. If so where can I find them?

  • I may be wrong but I have not seen any standards for this forum, except for a limit on the image used in your profile. If you are talking about newspaper comic strips, the standards are set by the syndicate and the newspaper. In self-published material, the size of the paper stock would have some influence.
    • Thanks yes I was referring more to the industry more than anything else. So the syndicate doesnt have any specific image sizes it requires.
      • I meant that CCAS doesn't seem to have any format requirements, but I may be wrong. I assume that each comic-strip publishing syndicate has standard sizes for panels and strips, and that the newspapers served by different syndicates have to fit all of their comics on the same page.

        Examples:

Creators Syndicate describes its formatting guidelines at http://www.creators.com/submissions.html#comic%20submissions

King Features is more specific in its comic strip and panel dimensions, at http://www.kingfeatures.com/subg_comic.htm

United Features Syndicate is less specific, and refers the artist to the dimensions found in local newspaper strips

        • Wow thanks! That was very helpful!
          • Look up www.bluelinepro.com

This company sells comic art supplies. Interestingly they sell a pack of comic paper specially fomatted and sized for newspaper comic strips.
            • "Blueline"... that word brings back memories of making blueline proofs for printers, day after day, year after year, on that weird yellow paper. Vacuum contact frames are probably what did it to my hearing.
              • interesting. Sorry about your hearing.
It reminds me of the Roin Atkins show on the bbc. GENIUS!

Thanks Micheal! I will check that out. I have no illusions of being picked up by any secular paper but still want to adhere to the standards.
                • I can still hear normally but I seem to be lsoing my high-pitched hearing in one ear.
